Description and objectives
Pericles IV aims to prevent and combat counterfeiting and fraud related to the use of euro banknotes and coins, to preserve the integrity of the euro as a “physical currency,” and to strengthen the confidence of citizens and businesses in the authenticity of banknotes and coins.
The program supports and complements measures taken by member states on these matters, promotes cooperation within the EU, and ensures comprehensive protection of the euro against counterfeiting at the international level, with particular attention to emerging and increasingly sophisticated threats, difficult relations with certain countries, and the role of international organized crime in euro counterfeiting.
Types of actions and projects
Pericles IV provides for the exchange and dissemination of information, particularly through:
- The organization of seminars, studies, training events, targeted placements and staff exchanges, for national authorities, law enforcement and judicial authorities, banks and others involved in the fight against euro counterfeiting;
- Technical, scientific and operational assistance activities and the purchase of equipment for specialized anti-counterfeiting authorities in third countries to protect the euro against counterfeiting.
Highlights
Pericles IV stands in continuity with the previous phase of the program. Provides for a simplification of the proposal submission process through the use of an IT platform.
