We continue our review with the presentation of Europe=We
We have long devoted ample space on our pages to in-depth guides of official provenance and interesting content for our readers. In the most difficult moments of the Covid-19 crisis(but not only!) we devoted special space to online training materials (e.g.: 1 | 2 | 3).
This year opens with the hope of a gradual exit from the crisis, but online education is likely to be with us for a long time to come: after all, the crisis itself was an opportunity to discover its benefits.
Europe=We, a digital platform for schools
It is called Europe=We, was carried out by the Department for European Policy. and offers teachers and students a multimedia and interactive journey to discover the history, values, institutions and programs of Europe, with a focus on the rights and duties associated with citizenship and the Treaties that have enabled the establishment and development of the European Union over time.
Europe=We the platform specifications
This is a long-standing project, started in 2010 and already used by more than 13 thousand the teachers. It is free of charge and is accessed by filling out a special registration form.
Europe=We is part of a broader platform dedicated to digital training for teachers and schools, which includes virtual classrooms and specific pathways for preschools , element ary school, and secondary schools. Each of these paths includes, among other things, elements of Europe=We.
Europe=We the sections
Europe=We is organized into four sections, all full of very interesting materials for promoting “European digital education.”
- A faculty section, which provides educators with a variety of materials for their own training. A “Debate Handbook” can be found in this section. (teaching methodology that fosters the development of critical thinking, argumentative skills and cooperation), a Teaching Methodological Guide with content cues, worksheets and methodological advice, an interactive volume for self-training on European issues, an Operational Guide for carrying out activities on the platform, and specific documentation for using the platform tools dedicated to different educational grades;
- A tools section, which brings together a variety of free digital educational resources (in Italian and English) for in-depth studies and classroom activities dedicated to the European Union. Each instrument is designed and adapted to the target audience: Living Books animated and interactive, games, and insights for younger children; more specific insights, engaging e-books, and workbook cues for secondary schoolers; and articulated teaching tools, workbook cues, and more technical and complex materials for older students;
- A competition section that offers Italian students the opportunity to challenge themselves on their knowledge of EU history and institutions, as well as other key topics in European citizenship education;
- An interactive exhibition section presenting the contents of the initiative “Italy in Europe, Europe in Italy” (in which EuropeDirect Centers are actively participating, which we recently discussed 1 | 2).
Conclusions
Never before has the need been more keenly felt for citizens to contribute to the project of peace, rights and common development that Europe has always carried.
Europe=We (kind of like our Guide, for the older ones) is a great tool for them to grow!
