We continue our review of useful publications with an industry paper on the topic of tourism.

Tourism is a very important item of GDP and employment for Italy and for other European countries (both in itself and considering its allied industries); moreover, it is an exceptional instrument of exchange for the citizens of the Union and a fundamental factor in the promotion of territories.

Many EU programs, Regional Operational Programs and Rural Development Programs make reference to tourism within their axes and measures, but there is no European program specifically dedicated to this sector even though it is so important.

For this reason, the Directorate General of the European Commission in charge of the Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs has developed a specific guide dedicated to EU funding in the tourism sector. The guide (of about 70 pages) is structured in a very simple and systematic way: an introduction clarifies its scope and mode of use; a chapter devoted to each program explains its relevance for activities in the tourism sector; and a final outline allows for a recapitulation of “who funds what,” cross-referencing the different programs with the main types of potential beneficiaries related to the tourism sector.
