Our last update post regarding the new EU financial framework and 2021-2027 programming is now several months old. What has happened in the meantime? For you in this new post, a content-rich update.

Almost everyone is familiar with the main political news of the last few months: a new European Parliament was elected at the end of May, and it took several months for the approval and appointment process of the new Commission. You can find a full explanation of how it works here, and an interesting summary infographic here.

The delay in the appointment and start of work of the new European Commission was caused by the non-confirmation of some candidates by Parliament and complications related to “Brexit” (the UK’s failure to appoint a Commissioner). Now, as of last November 27, we are ready to go!

The future president of the European Commission was in fact elected on July 16, but her team (including all the members in pectore of the new Commission) has just received approval from the European Parliament. The new team constitutes the political leadership of the European Commission and will serve for 5 years, until 2024: thus, it is the team that will accompany the launch and the first phase of the new EU funds programming period 2021-2027!

The preparation and approval of the 2021-2027 EU budget have not had any noticeable developments in recent months, but there are sure to be major changes as soon as all the new institutional bodies of the European Union are fully operational. While we wait, here are some interesting updates and complementary details for you!

Perhaps not everyone knows that.

See you soon with new updates!
